PROSTATE IMPLANT DOSE PLANNING SERVICE
ULTRASOUND SCAN REQUIREMENTS
- The prostate volume must be 50cc or less.
- The volume study must have the entire template grid visible on each slice. Please do not cut off any of the letters or numbers.
- The prostate must be set up perpendicular to the grid with the urethra in line with row D on the grid for a B&K type template or row G on the grid for a Siemens type template.
- The prostate contour must lie along or above Row 1 of the template grid.
- The volume study must include the whole of the prostate.
- The template grid must cover the prostate on all levels.

Make sure that the dot matrix of the grid is square, that is, the magnification of the grid is the same in both directions. A magnification of around 1 is preferred.

Make a trial scan along the entire length of the prostate to ensure that the probe is at the correct angle. Ensure that the probe does not cause compression of the posterior aspect of the prostate - it should not have a concave appearance.

Take images at 5mm intervals along the whole length of the prostate. Take one image above the base and one below the apex to ensure that the whole of the prostate has been acquired.

The grid and outline of the prostate should be clearly marked on all levels, preferably on the Ultrasound pictures. Ensure that the base, apex and position of each slice is clearly marked.

Outlines on tracing paper can be used but only if really necessary - if this is the case then each tracing must clearly indicate the grid, the prostate outline, the number of slice/outline and the patients details.

|
Make two copies of the ultrasound pictures at the time of the volume study. Keep one for your own records.

The equivalent activity of the seeds to be used (on the proposed date of implanting) should be filled in on the attached form , if known. If not, the equivalent activity of the seeds will be assumed to be 0.4 mCi.
