  IsoSeed
  IsoCord

IsoSeed / IsoCord : New design for excellent X-ray and Ultrasound visibility

A reliable identification of the seeds in X-ray imaging is essential to a successful seed implantation using Flouroscopy for implant depth control. Therefore BEBIG has developed a next generation product and now offers the new IsoSeed I25.S17, which is a seed with excellent X-ray visibility.

IsoSeed I25.S17 is optimised for high –contrast X-ray imaging and enables you to identify seeds easily. The ultrasound visibility of the new product continues to be best in class. Moreover, I25.S17 seeds can be clearly seen in MRI  images. This opens new perspectives for the post planning.

For further details on I25.S17 please refer to the attached IsoSeed I25.S17 Product Information and new IsoSeed and IsoCord brochures.

IsoCord I25.S171 provides excellent strand placement characteristics and an outstanding visibility under X-ray and ultrasound. With the IsoCord Needle Loading Station strand cutting and needle loading is safe and convenient.

IsoSeed I-125

The IsoSeed I-125 is an encapsulated sealed radioactive source.

  Packaging and Ordering
IsoSeed is available as loose seeds or loaded in Mick Magazines.
To ensure your safety, our seeds are supplied in a shielded stainless steel container.
Ordering number for seeds loaded in Mick Magazine: I25.S17 SM and I25.S06 SM
Ordering number for loose seeds: I25.S17 SL and I25.S06 SL

The Iodine-125 isotope has a half-life of 59.46 days. It decays as a result of electron

capture by X-ray and -emission in the energy range up to 35 keV. The electrons

emitted during the decay process are absorbed by the titanium capsule material,

known as self absorption.

Special characteristics of the IsoSeed I-125 and IsoCord

  • Superior CT visibility
The IsoSeed is equipped with a high-density metal marker providing excellent CT visibility. The full-length marker allows easy and precise location of each seed and produces minimal artefacts. This enhances the precision of the post-implant quality control.

  • Excellent seed characteristics
The symmetrical and uniform distribution of the activity throughout the IsoSeed results in an exceptionally low anisotropy. This assures a more homogeneous dose distribution around each seed, a key feature to minimize cold spots in the targeted treatment area.
  •  Excellent flouroscopy visibility
The implanted IsoCord® strands show up on a fluoroscopic image as a regular pattern. The strands lie in straight lines and the seeds are clearly visible and can be easily identified due to their full length metal marker.

  •  Clear ultrasound    visibility
    The
IsoSeedâ seeds and IsoCord® strands are clearly visible under ultrasound imaging, which allows the use of longitudinal ultrasound scanning for controlling the implant depth.

  • MRI compatibility

The IsoSeedâ seeds and IsoCordâ strands do not contain significant amounts of ferromagnetic material. Isocord / IsoSeed implants will not cause any residual forces inside the magnetic field of an MRI devices which could harm the patient. The conductive parts are also very small so that interactions with the RF frequency will not lead to a noticeable rise of the tissue temperature.

  • 100% Quality assurance
Our highly automated manufacturing process using robotics ensures that each
IsoSeed is uniform and consistent. Every seed is controlled extensively during the production process by unique automatic measurement systems as well as quality control experts.

  • Flexibility
IsoSeed allows you to choose your preferred technique. IsoSeeds are available in preloaded Mick cartridges or as loose seeds.

  • More radiation protection for your team

If IsoSeed is used in conjunction with a Mick cartridge and Mick applicator or as IsoCord using the IsoCord Needle Loading Station there will be less exposure to the team handling these seeds than if they were used as loose seeds that need to be loaded into needles.

  • Wide activity range
We provide a broad range of standard activities, which enables you to choose the ideal seed activity for each patient and the technique you employ. Further activities are available upon request.

IsoCord

IsoCord is composed of the established BEBIG IsoSeed I-125, spacers separating the seeds and incorporated within suture material. The suture material and spacers are completely biodegradable within the body.

IsoCord Product Information Brochure ( pdf )

  • Customisation
IsoCord Seed Chains are wound in a magazine (reel) and can be customized according to your individual needs using the IsoCord Needle Loading Station. i.e. the length of the IsoCord to be implanted can be cut accordingly.

  •  Radiation Protection
The IsoCord Stainless Steel Magazine in conjunction with the needle loading station offers superb radiation protection for the user throughout the procedure.
  • Application
The IsoCord Needle Loading Station precisely separates the seed chain allowing smooth manoeuvring throughout the needle and easy deposition into the prostate without any jamming. The IsoCord Spacers prevent the accordion effect i.e. the shortening of the distance between seeds in the needle or the prostate during the implantation process. The seeds remain in their determined positions.
  • Implant
The IsoCord Seed Chain with its very stable initial stiffness provides seed fixity once it is deposited in the prostate. The hour-glass shape of the spacers facilitate rapid degradation within the tissue.
  • Magazine
The IsoCord Magazine functions both as a transport container and a drive for the IsoCord Seed Chain in the needle loading station. With the drive in the magazine the IsoCord Seed Chain can be manually advanced in the needle loading station. When not used in conjunction with the needle loading station the drive is automatically secured.

  • Miscellaneous
The IsoCord Magazine is delivered in a double sterile packaging to offer an optimally sterile product. The biocompatibility of the IsoCord Seed Chain has been proven by extensive tests.
  • IsoCord Needle Loading Station ( NLS )

To cut IsoCord an IsoCord magazine is inserted into the Needle Loading Station. By turning the knob the desired length of IsoCord is moved out of the magazine. The lighted mirror enables you to verify the number and position of the seeds. Next the IsoCord is cut to the appropriate length with the integrated cutting unit and pushed into the implantation needle with the integrated mandrel. The implantation needle is simply attached to the Needle Loading Station by a “push and click” mechanism. The IsoCord strand loaded needle can then be transferred to the IsoCord needle rack for temporary storage or directly into a needle cradle.
