Dummies
To minimize radiation exposure to the operator we recommend the
use of dummies which are available for all plaques. The
positioning of the plaque on the eye may be facilitated using
the PMMA dummies. The eye is diaphanoscopically illuminated,
while the dummy is positioned on the eye. The shadow of the
tumour on the sclera allows optimal placement of the dummy. The
dummy is then replaced with the radioactive plaque.
Diaphanoscope
For the positioning of the plaque we offer a high performance
diaphanoscope with two different probes. The fibre optic stem is
straight and allows to illuminate the inner eye via the pupil.
The tumour can be visualized as a shadow on the sclera. The
fibre optic probe is bent and creates a point of light. The
projection of the periphery of the plaque or dummy can be
visualized from the inner eye.
Plaque
Simulator
Plaque Simulator is a 3D treatment
simulation and modelling package for Ru-106, I-125, Pd-103 and
Ir-192 plaque therapy of ocular tumours and macular
degeneration. Applicable ophthalmic tumours include choroidal
melanoma in adults, retinoblastoma in young children and various
forms of metastatic disease.
Please note: Plaque Simulator is not medical software in the
sense of, for example, FDA regulations, and therefore does not
relieve physicians, physicists or dosimetrists from any of their
dosimetric responsibilities or liabilities.
Detailed technical information and a demonstration version can
be found on the
Plaque Simulator Homepage.
