DIAL-IN-SEED SPACING SELECTOR The "Dial-In Seed Spacing Selector" (black knob) can be rotated about its axis to 5 distinct locations whereas each location represents the desired distance chosen between seeds. As shown above, the Seed
Spacing Selector is set to 4.0 thus the seeds will be spaced
4.0 mm apart.

POST IMPLANT SIMULATION FILM Shown is a Post Implant Simulation Film of a prostate seed implant. Shaped in form of a small walnut, the seeds cover the entire prostate gland. Excellent coverage is achievable with the use of the Mick
200-TPV Applicator.

LOADED MAGAZINE IN CUBICLE
Shown here is a fully loaded disposable Mick magazine inserted into the magazine cubicle. Shaped in form of a horse-shoe, the magazine cubicle's stainless steel side walls completely surround the loaded magazine thus greatly reducing radiation exposure. Front: The Needle Receptor and
Mick TP Needle. |

Mick Magazines
Shown above is a fully loaded Shielded / Disposable Magazine (15 seeds) inserted into the magazine receptor of the Mick Applicator. The magazine receptor's heavy walls provide excellent circumferential radiation shielding. Measurements taken at the top of the magazine when inserted in the applicator read: 0.02mR/h.

Shielded / Disposable Magazines are compatible with all Mick Applicators, (200-TP / 200-TPV / 250-TP / 250-TPV and Mick-100) and all currently manufactured I-125 and Pd-103 seeds. The newly developed magazines are manufactured from PES and surface-coated Brass. They are designed to hold maximum 15 seeds (see instructions for use) and suitable for STEAM
STERILIZATION (Autoclave). The new magazine head is fully shielded thus providing excellent radiation protection to staff and personnel. The magazine heads are threaded for safe storage in "Loading V-Block (SeeDOS Code 7509) or Seed Sterilizer (SeeDOS Code 7901).

What's Different About the Mick 200-TPV Applicator?
The Mick 200-TPV Applicator allows for seeds to be spaced at variable distances thus offering optimal flexibility in seed placement options. With the Who-click'' method, seeds can be spaced 7.5mm, 8.0mm, 10.0mm, 11.0mm and 12.0mm. Therefore, seeds may be placed closer together at the periphery of the gland or further apart near the Urethra or Rectum while inadequately covered areas are
readily re-implanted with additional seeds. A simple turn on the Dial-ln Selector sets the spacing between seeds.... and it's done on the fly!

The Urologist may implant and set the Mick TP needles under Ultrasound guidance (fluoroscopy is recommended). All needles are inserted first without the presence of seeds, thus avoiding radiation exposure to hands and fingers. Methods of needle placement: peripheral or modified peripheral loading or one plane at a time.
|
Once the "cold" needles are implanted, the Radiation Oncologist may take over removing one of the needle's obturators to see if blood or urine drips out. The Mick Applicator is then attached to the needle hub and the template ring is advanced to the surface of the template. A preloaded magazine is inserted into the applicator's magazine receptor for sequential insertion
of seeds.
|
Seeds are implanted one after another; once the first seed is deposited, the Mick TP Needle is retracted, usually lcm, and the next seed is transferred and deposited by means of the applicator's stylet. After the insertion of the required number of seeds, the applicator is detached and the procedure is repeated with the next needle.
