The Main Unit
The
MultiSource
afterloader system is designed for the entire range of
HDR brachytherapy applications with Co-60 or Ir-192
sources.

|
 |
Application |
MultiSource
is a 20 channel afterloader, which has been specially
developed for safe, accurate and cost efficient
intraluminal, interstitial, intracavitary,
intra-operative and surface mould treatments. A complete
range of applicators, catheters, needles and templates
is available for the MultiSource .
|
 |
Miniaturised Co-60 Source |
BEBIGs
proven expertise in the manufacturing of sealed sources
has resulted in a miniaturised high activity Co-60
source, which is the same size as a conventional Ir-192
source. A miniaturised Co-60 afterloader source can be
used for equivalent applications and delivers equivalent
treatment results as the standard Ir-192, but at a lower
operating cost per treatment.
|
 |
Lower
Operating Costs |
MultiSource
was developed to provide the clinic with a very cost
efficient solution. Hence MultiSource
is equipped with a Co-60 source. Alternatively it can be
equipped with an Ir-192 source. Due to the long half
life of Co-60, operational costs are reduced to
approximately one fifth of a conventional Ir-192 HDR
afterloading system. Just one source exchange per 10
years of operation is usually required, compared to 35
to 40 source exchanges with conventional Ir-192. This
results in a significant reduction in expenses for
sources, transport, service and patient treatment.
|
 |
Universal
Catheter System |
The unique
Universal Catheter System is an enclosed catheter, which
is inserted directly into the applicators. This solution
provides a very easy applicator connection and
guarantees a safe and fast emergency procedure, which
does not require removing the applicator from the
patient.
|
 |
Integrated
Calibration System |
An
integrated fixed length test path guarantees a precise
calibration of the source transportation system. In
addition, source position accuracy can be independently
verified with the integrated camera.
|
 |
Automatic
Length Verification |
MultiSource
measures every applicator, catheter and needle length
automatically. This unique feature reduces treatment
time while guaranteeing precision treatment by
eliminating manual measurements.

Safety Functions
The storage container is made of tungsten alloy and guarantees radiation protection.
|
The internal battery ensures a safe source or dummy retraction in the event of power failure.
An additional emergency retraction system is available as backup for the drive system.
In the improbable case that both electrical systems fail, a hand crank can be used to pull back the source manually.
Automatic source retraction as soon as the door to the operating theatre opens.
Two different monitoring systems control treatment time and source position. |
Drive and Automatic Calibration System
|
Integrated automatic drive calibration system performs 100% positioning accuracy.
Additional camera system for visual positioning control.
Verifying of channel connections and applicators before the treatment starts.
Movement and force control is dependent on applicator requirements.

HDR
plus Treatment Planning Software |
The HDR plus High Dose Radiation Therapy Treatment Planning
Program displays significant advantages compared to other programs. The
program is based on the experience gained through the development of LDR
(low dose radiation) Brachytherapy, ultrasound imaging systems, and software
for processing of x-ray, CT and MR images. Clinical experience in HDR
is the foundation of the program and its user interface.
Specifications |

dwell-time calculation inside the treated volume.
Algorithms and data for the entire standard source type isotopes
are available.
The import of CT, MR, US and orthogonal films is possible, as well
as the import via real time frame grabber and TWAIN interface.
The HDR plus contouring tool even recognizes pre-drawn contours.
Therapy planning can be performed manually, semi- or fully automatically.

HDR 1000 Plus Source Holder to Isotope Compatibility Chart
| Source Holder for High Dose Rate Iridium, SeeDOS Code 70010, has a 2.2 mm opening for the catheter. A rubber O-ring secures the catheter with a uniform constricting pressure to prevent any movement of the catheter. The Calibration procedure is easy and uncomplicated. The time required for calibration is
only a fraction of that required for thimble ion chamber techniques. |
